The IPU CET LLB is held across in 15 cities in India. The paper pattern comprises of 150 questions for a total of 600 marks and the paper has to be completed in duration of two and a half hours. There is negative marking in the test. For every correct answer you get 4 marks and for every incorrect answer one mark is deducted.
The exam pattern consists of a total of 4 sections. The General Knowledge section carries a 25% weightage, the English Language and Comprehension carries 25%, Legal Aptitude (General Legal Awareness and Understanding and Application of Legal Principles) carries 25% and the Reasoning section carries 25% weightage. The Question Paper is set in English language only.
Since it is an offline based exam it is important that the candidates make sure that they bring the required materials to answer the exam which must include a blue or black ball point pen. Any answers marked with a pencil will not be counted and might even attract negative marks thus make sure you carry the correct stationery. Candidates should be extremely careful when they mark their answer in the OMR sheet as once an answer has been marked it cannot be changed and no extra OMR sheets will be provided by the exam hall. It is important that they do not mark more than one circle on one question since that question will be marked as invalidated and negative mark will be issued for the same. The candidate should be careful as stray marks should not be made anywhere on the OMR sheet as it may interfere in the calculation of the actual marks. Additionally the University does not accept any requests for revaluation.
Prep Tips
Following are some tips for preparation which will help a IPU CET LLB aspirant manage his/ her studies for a smooth sail preparation.
- Study Plan: A good study plan would involve strategizing and prioritising your tasks by making a simple time table for your preparation. This is an important part of the plan since it will help one manage their Class 12th studies, tuitions and other commitments along with the IPU CET prep. This time table can be made to be flexible to accommodate for a good amount of free time but it is important to make sure that you always make up for the time lost.
- Read: For efficient preparation it is important to inculcate a reading habit. You should read regularly and as much as you can. I cannot stress this point enough. Pick a newspaper that you like and make sure you read it cover to cover every day. A habit like this will help you to increase your reading speed so that you can come over the time crunch in the paper by sailing through the long questions faster. It will also help you in the General Knowledge section as you will be apprised with all the latest news and current affairs.
- Progress Checks: Another important aspect of your preparation is making sure your progress is noted. Thus it becomes pivotal that all of you maintain a personal diary with you where you note all your tasks which have completed. A diary like this can make you self - aware more than anything. You should update this diary on a regular basis so that you can keep a live track of your progress and performance.
- Do not Copy: Now imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery but I would like to stress upon this point, that you should not copy your friends and their prep strategies by succumbing to peer pressure. Just because someone is putting in more hours a day than you does not necessarily mean that you are on the wrong track. It is extremely important that you remain confident about your preparation strategy.
- Revise Regularly: After you have been prepping for a while it is imperative that you revise regularly. Our brain works overtime under pressure and it may lead to you forgetting some key concepts which may cost you under the negative marking scheme. Hence with the help of your diary, you should revise your key concepts regularly. This may seem cumbersome and repetitive at first but once you do it for a few concepts you will realise that it hardly takes time to revise those concepts after a while. While revising you may come across some doubts and queries. I strongly suggest that you jot down these doubts as and when they come so that you do not forget them since they may also prove to be extremely crucial during the test.
