What is AILET?

ALIET stands for All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) which is conducted by National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) to give admission to qualified  candidates in undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and doctorate (PhD) level law courses. This is a university-level entrance exam only for entrance at NLU Delhi as the university and  does not acknowledge any other law entrance exam for entrance.

AILET 2021: Eligibility Criteria

The candidates looking for admissions at NLU Delhi through AILET Exam can analyze the qualification criteria from the table given below:


Norms for Qualification

UG Law Course

❖  Candidates should have qualified in 12th or in SSC(i.e 10th) Examination or must have acquired a minimum of 50% marks.

❖  Candidates emerging for qualifying exams are also suitable.

PG Law Course

❖  Candidates who have acquired LLB or any other equivalent degree with a minimum of 55% marks are qualified.

❖  Candidates Associated with the SC/ ST class need to ensure that they score at least 50% marks in the final year of the LLB degree.

❖  Candidates turning up for their concluding year of LLB exams are also qualified.

PhD Law Course

❖  Candidates should have grip over an LLM degree from any acknowledged university.

❖  They should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in the qualifying degree examination. However, if they belong to SC/ ST class then the qualifying marks should be a minimum of 50%.

❖  If candidates have finished their law degree together with a master’s degree such as MPhil in Social Sciences/ Humanities from any acknowledged university with a minimum of 55% marks. Such candidates should make sure that the research work they have operated is related to any discipline of law and with main attention on subject matters like Public Policy of Law. Or

❖  Candidates who have finished a degree in law and a PhD in any discipline. Or

❖  Candidates who have been employed as a State High Court Judge in India for a minimum of three years or Judge at Supreme Court of India.

AILET 2021 Admit Card

AILET Admit Card will be issued in the  fourth week of April 2021. It will be announced on the official website and will be filled online only. Candidates can download the  admit card through the website by entering  registration ID & password.It is compulsory for the aspirants to carry their admit card at the examination center. Aspirants are requested to carry one valid ID proof as well as the admit card in the examination hall.

  • Each question weighs 1 mark and 1 mark will be given for the right answer.

   A: NLU Delhi has initiated the online application procedure of AILET exam from January 15 onwards on the official website. The concluding date of submitting application form has been exceeded until Aug 10.

Q: How can we apply for the AILET exam?

   A: Candidates can apply for AILET 2021 by filling the application form which will be available in online mode at the official website of NLU Delhi only.

Q: Will NLU Delhi conduct AILET 2021 Exam during COVID-19 or not?

   A: NLU Delhi will surely organise AILET exam on September 26 from 11 am-12:30 pm but the mode of exam will be online mode (in a centre-based remotely-proctored online mode) instead of an offline mode.

Q: Is AILET a crucial exam to undergo for law admissions?

   A: Yes, for the candidates who aspire to enter in one of the top law universities India i.e. NLU Delhi, AILET is indeed a significant exam.

Q: Is AILET harder than CLAT?

   A: Yes, the hardship level of AILET is generally greater than the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Q: Is AILET organised in online or offline mode?

   A: The law entrance exam is organised in offline mode i.e. candidates are provided with a question paper and they have to mark their answers in an OMR sheet.

Q: Is there any age limit to apply for the AILET exam?

   A: No, NLU Delhi has not prescribed any lower or upper age limit for admissions to its law courses.

Q: How many seats are available in AILET?

   A: There are a total of 160 seats available at NLU Delhi, however, only 110 seats for BA LLB and 70 seats for LLM courses are available in AILET exam.

Q: Can I get enrolled in NLU Delhi on the basis of CLAT score?

   A: No, NLU Delhi allows enrolment either on basis of AILET scores or on the basis of merit scores in the qualifying exam.
