However, if one aims to start at the middle level or higher level management, then a degree in travel/hotel management is a must. The criteria for selection differentiates here as well, because some hotels hire fresh graduates straight from universities and institutes where such courses are offered, whereas some hotels only hire trained hotel management graduates.

For a full-time undergraduate course, the eligibility is 10+2 with 50% marks. Those candidates who do not possess one or either of these can go for the diploma or certificate course in hotel management. There are some hotels who even provide an on the job training. If there is a particular institute you have in mind for pursuing the course, it would be better to ask them directly about their hotel management course details.

Career Suitability:
The hotel management career is considered to be glamorous however do keep in mind that it requires professionals who can keep their cool and act patiently in the most challenging situations. So make sure your personality traits match with the work profile. Also, you might not be made a manager straightaway and depending on the availability of jobs you should be willing and open to working on various profiles.

This majorly depends on the institute from which you have pursued the degree. However, your work experience and your capability and skills to handle pressure situations also play a major role. Candidates passing out from top-notch institutes like IHM and Garden City College are offered a starting salary of Rs 20,000 or more. However, candidates holding the diploma or those who have passed certification course programs get starting salaries between Rs8,000 to 10,000. The size and shape of the hotel and the employment company also plays a major role in what kind of salary package is being offered to the candidate. Also, of course, the hotel manager salary will be higher than that of the Front Desk staff and you might not get there straight away.
